Analysis of γ Determinations from B → πK Decays Andrzej

چکیده
We present a general parametrization of B → πK, π0K± and Bd → π0K, πK decays, taking into account both electroweak penguin and rescattering effects. This formalism allows – among other things – an improved implementation of the strategies that were recently proposed by Neubert and Rosner to probe the CKM angle γ with the help of B → πK, π0K± decays. In particular, it allows us to investigate the sensitivity of the extracted value of γ to the basic assumptions of their approach. We find that certain SU(3)-breaking effects may have an important impact and emphasize that additional hadronic uncertainties are due to rescattering processes. The latter can be controlled by using SU(3) flavour symmetry arguments and additional experimental information provided by B → KK modes. We propose a new strategy to probe the angle γ with the help of the neutral decays Bd → π0K, πK, which is theoretically cleaner than the B → πK, π0K± approach. Here rescattering processes can be taken into account by just measuring the CP-violating observables of the decay Bd → πKS. Finally, we point out that an experimental analysis of Bs → K+K− modes would also be very useful to probe the CKM angle γ, as well as electroweak penguins, and we critically compare the virtues and weaknesses of the various approaches discussed in this paper. As a by-product, we point out a strategy to include the electroweak penguins in the determination of the CKM angle α from B → ππ decays. CERN-TH/98-319 October 1998

A Critical Look at γ Determinations from B → πK Decays
The determination of the angle γ of the unitarity triangle of the CKM matrix is a challenge for the B-factories. In this context, B → πK decays received a lot of attention, providing various interesting ways to constrain and determine γ. These strategies are briefly reviewed, and their virtues and weaknesses are compared with one another. Invited talk given at the 17th International Workshop on...
متن کاملConstraints on the CKM Angle γ and Strong Phases from B → πK Decays Andrzej
As we pointed out recently, the neutral decays Bd → πK and Bd → πK may provide non-trivial bounds on the CKM angle γ. In this paper, we reconsider this approach in the light of recent CLEO data, which look very interesting. In particular, the results for the corresponding CP-averaged branching ratios are in favour of strong constraints on γ, where the second quadrant is preferred. Such a situat...

متن کاملNew Bound on γ from B → πK Decays
A new bound on the angle γ of the unitarity triangle is derived using experimental information on the CP-averaged branching ratios for the rare decays B → π±K0 and B → π0K±. The theoretical description is cleaner than the Fleischer–Mannel analysis of the decays B → π±K0 and B0 → πK in that the two decay rates differ only in a single isospin amplitude, which has a simple structure in the SU(3) l...
متن کاملNew Aspects of B → ππ, πK and their Implications for Rare Decays
We analyse the B → ππ, πK modes in the light of the most recent B-factory data, and obtain the following new results: (i) the B0 d → π +π−, π−K+ modes prefer γ = (74± 6), which – together with |Vub/Vcb| – allows us to determine the “true” unitarity triangle and to search for CP-violating new-physics contributions to B0 d– B̄0 d mixing; (ii) the B → πK puzzle reflected in particular by the low ex...
